Transmission Flush 850

I changed the transmission fluid in our 1996 850 NA last weekend. It has about 160,000 miles on it. The fluid was brown, about the color of used motor oil. I used the method that pumps out the fluid from the top hose to the radiator.

About 450 miles have been added since with no negative issues. I would like to add that the advise to use a pair of C clip pliers to spread the clip at the radiator is good advise. I broke mine and had to buy another one.

Shifting seems about the same but my conscience is much clearer.

    Transmission Flush 850

    Hi Hawkeye,

I flushed my transmission fluid this fall before it got nasty here (Boston)
It was really nasty looking. I added tranny additive to help out the old seals.
There's 200K miles on my 95 850 and it might have been original tranny fluid.
I got a new clip from the Volvo dealer before doing the job.
I used walmart Tranny fluid, maybe I should reflush this spring and replace with
    synthetic?

Have you flushed brake fluid? That's another good idea.

    Bill

I haven't changed the brake fluid in any of my Volvos yet but I know I need to. I want to get the motive power flusher to do it with.
