2001 V70 T5 V70-XC70

HELLO, I've GOT A 2001 V70 T5,CHANGED THE TIMING BELT AND GOT A P0014 CODE,MY FIRST TIMING BELT CHANGE, SECOND I CHANGED THE TIMING BELT ON OUR O4 XC70 2.5 AND NO TROUBLES,THIRD I CHANGED THE TIMING BELT ON OUR 02 V70XC AND NO TROUBLES,I NOTICED THAT THE 02 2.4 L TIMING HAS 18 TEETH BETWEEN THE CAM GEARS, MY 01 T5 2.3L IS SET AT 17 TEETH BETWEEN THE CAM GEARS,SO I MOVED THE EXHAUST GEAR BACK ONE TOOTH, NOW I GET A P1332 CODE,DID I MOVE IT THE WRONG WAY? AFTER READING SOME POSTS IN HERE,I THINK I SHOULD MORE IT FORWARD TWO TEETH,THE REAR CAM IS HARD TO SEE WITH THE STRUT TOWER, YES I DIDN'T MARK THE CAM GEARS CORRECTLY AND THE REAR CAM MOVED WHEN I PUT IT BACK TOGETHER THE FIRST TIME,THANKS FOR YOUR TIME, JOE

Please do not type with caps lock, it is too hard to read.

Yes, you blew it. Good thing you can be off a couple of teeth and not have bent valves.

Before you take the belt off again, align all of the timing marks and then turn the engine clockwise an additional 90 degrees, and then back to TDC. This will releve the tension on the VVT and make things easier.

Do not compare the 2.3 with the 2.5, they are different.

Thanks for your reply ,when I took the belt off I did rotate it 90 and back again,my trouble is lining up the rear cam to the correct spot, I lined the marks up with the timing marks, it idles ok,but you have to wait forever for it to rev over 4000 rpms and I've lost 3 miles per gallon,I can't find anyone to tell me how many teeth there is from cam center to cam center, why,i know that 19 teeth and20 teeth are wrong, let me ask you this, when you rotate the motor 90 degrees and back again to remove the belt, do you rotate the crank back about a half tooth so when you install the belt your marks line up when you take the slack out of the drive side so you can then use the tentionor to adjust the belt on the water pump side?

I followed Bay13's example and used a bungee cord to keep tension on the tensioner roller. The hardest part was to keep the belt tight between the cams.

No one counts teeth, just slide the plastic cover over the bolt holes and check the cam alignment marks.

well, its been awhile but I thought I would finish this thread, my timing was the intake cam not the vvt, I timed it like the 2.4 and 2.5 engines .worked great after that, afew months later I got T-boned on my way home, cars totaled and its a parts car for our other 3 v70's.
