Will any stock headunits from other Volvos fit in a 2002 v40 with no modification?

The scenario: the headunit takes up a lot of space in a v40. Mine's dead (or rather, the battery died, and now the head won't take the code listed for its serial #), and I don't want to replace it with something black and glossy, half the size with a big bezel surround. I like stuff to look stock.

I know I can get a v40 headunit on eBay if worst comes to worst, but there's a lot of other 98 to about 03/04 Volvos in my local Pick And Pulls that have similar heads for 20 bucks. If I could grab one of them it'd be awesome.

Will anything fit?

If anything like the 2000 s40, it is a somewhat unusual sized double-DIN unit. The face dimensions are pretty normal, but I think it's the depth that's non-standard. I've found there is remarkably little "cross-application" information for Volvos or maybe the s40 just doesn't share anything. Anyway, I'd just carefully measure your unit, then go to the yards you mention and measure what's there. If one matches, you're good. Another alternative is just wiring a new, concealed (under seat, in glove box, in trunk, under dash, etc.) amp to your speakers with a convenient connection for your mp3 device of choice. What shows is stock, but you've got better, more convenient sound.

To enter the code
After installation or when the set has been disconnected from power, the set displays "input CODE ****" when it is switched on. Enter the 4-digit code using the 1-20/DISC knob. Select a number for a digit by rotating the 1-20/DISC knob. And then push the knob to enter the number. Repeat the procedure for all 4 digits.
If the correct code is entered the set is ready to use.
If you enter an incorrect code you must enter the correct code again from the beginning.

Pull the radio out so you can see the serial number, then call a dealer parts dept and ask if they can give you the code. I don't know if you can insert an S/V70 radio into your dash, or even if the plugs in the rear are compatible.

What I meant is that it powers on and we can input codes, but it won't unlock with the unlock code Volvo says goes with the serial number on the unit. My local dealer's told me all they can do is replace it (to the tune of $350), Volvo doesn't reflash codes.

So If I need to come up with another in the first place...
