Wheel bearing noise? V70-XC70 2004

Spring is slowly coming here to upstate NY. I found a nail in one of my snow tires, so decided to pull all the snows off and put on the summer tires ( new high performance all-season). I'll deal with the flat tire later.

For the last few weeks I have noticed an increase "tire noise" when at highway speed and making a right curve. I figured a pot hole did something to the left front tire, and it became noise when presented with a lateral load from heading right. As soon as the road straightens out, the noise goes away. The noise does not occur when going around left curves.

After putting on the summer tires, which are brand new, I am getting the same noise under the same conditions. If anything, the intensity of the noise may be a bit higher. So, now I am thinking I have a tired wheel bearing.

Anyone other thoughts as to the source of the noise? Could there be some CV joint noise under there conditions? Does not make sense to me for there to be CV joint noise under these specific conditions, but FWD/AWD cars are still new to me. (I managed to stay RWD for a long time. So much easier to work on.) Snooping around the web, it does not look like changing the wheel bearing/hub is overly difficult. Any tips on relacement?

    Wheel bearing noise? V70-XC70 2004

    Hi,
2004 xd is a bit young for wheel bearing worn-out-noice without external reason.
I just renewed right front bearing in my 850/94 with 230kkm on it. The noice got worse with time/few 100kms, is sensitive to speed and turning, but a easy and relatively cheap one to replace.
You just need to get a long enough level to get the axel nut off and back.

Just like RWD cars, once you bet the hub nut off it is fairly easy and straight forward.

You could have a damaged bearing race that is causing the noise.

What type of noise does a damaged transfer case make? I'm getting a high-pitched squeal between 30 and 40 MPH when the car is cold. Goes away completely after car gets completely warm.

      Thanks!

Sounds more like the center support bearing for the AWD instead of the bevel gear.

Center driveshaft support bearing can make a high-pitched noise?

What noise does bad transfer case make? It may be a coincidence, but noise started sometime after Indy changed fluid in transfer case and rear diff.

          Thanks!

Transfer case and rear diff will only make noise when out of oil, and will not make noise when turning at speed. The center bearing, if noisy, will make noise at throttle up, and you can feel it in the seat of your pants. orry for the misdirection earlier.

The bearing is fairly easy to swap. Why not lift the wheel and check it for loosness?

Klaus: Fluid in transfer case and diff replaced recently. Slight vibration under Deceleration from 50 to 40 mph, otherewise no vibration.

Can center bearing be replaced w/o replacing driveshaft?

              Thanks!

Technically, no. But one person on this board did sucessfully replace his center bearing with one for a 745, with a couple of bracket mods.

Decelleration vibes can come from almost anywhere. If it is not bad, ignore it.
