S60R S60

I need an upgrade. Currently drive a '95 850T wagon and I'm looking at a '04 or '05 S60R.

When I chose the S60 section of this blog, I was surprised at how few issues were posted. I'll assume that the S60 is less DIY than the 850. Maybe fewer owners want to tinker with a more complex machine? Or, maybe it has fewer kinks than the 850!

In my area, I found an '04 with 86,000 for $13,400 and an "05 with 125,000 for $9000. I should mention that both have the Orange leather interior. Love it!

If you have a story about the S60, I would love to hear your experiences - good or bad. Thanks.

S60 is less DIY-able than the 850s. A lot of it is software tied to the car, so pulling junkyard parts isn't as easy. The 04+ AWD has had little problems. The R is a great car, though its a bit small for some of us. It can move, you're dropping about 1000lbs and gaining about 80 bhp (assuming you have the low pressure turbo now). If you're getting an automatic and you can afford it, I'd go '06 or newer. The 04-05 were slightly torque limited in first and second. The 06+ added another gear into the transmission and let you use the full 295 lb·ft of torque. Either way its a fun car to drive.

If you're not driving it "like its stolen," are you really driving?

Thanks, Klaus. I'm only 5'8" so the fit is just right. I'm rarely in the back seat of my cars, so the leg room is not an issue.

I don't really want an AWD version of anything. Volvo hasn't done AWD for the length of time that Audi or Subaru has so I'm a bit weary. It just adds more weight and probably more maintenance than I care to assume. FWD drive is fine for the area I live.

But, the normally aspirated or T versions are boring to me. The R version is HOT and I can't stop thinking of the Orange leather interior!

I don't fit in the S60. You could look at www.S60r.com for relevent comments.
