Fuel Line Failures on the 850 850 96

I have been learning of a few cases where the fuel lines on 850 Volvos have split or 'ruptured' causing noticeable fuel leaks. My car suffered a fuel fire adjacent to the fuel lines however the burning was so bad the lines could not be inspected.

Has anyone got more information on events of this type?

How would I inspect this fuel line leak?? should we be smelling gas..??? How do I trace the fuel line?? from the back to the front under the car by jacking it up ???

    Thanks

My first indication was smelling fuel. Mine was very obvious when it went.

As for locating fuel lines, easy to spot under the car. Mine went just under the firewall adjacent to the steering rack.

I've never heard of or seen that happen on any Volvo. Where'd you hear/read about this?

Another subscriber mentioned this problem on this AWD/FWD forum (still on listing). I asked the question and received two emails from others having experienced same.

Given the thousands of Volvo 850s worldwide this is hardly a problem. However, how many more is there?
