AC compressor won't come on V70-XC70


Hi,

OK, so a few days ago I posted about a partial freon loss. The AC still worked, just not as well as it should.
Today I set out to fill it up with some r134a with dye in it. The system had ~90psi of static pressure, so it must not have lost that much. Unfortunately after I hooked everything up, I found out that the AC compressor is not coming on at all. So I tried junping it directly to the battery, and still nothing! I cannot hear the AC clutch try to engage, and when I jump it's wire to the battery, there is no spark. Did the AC clutch just die, or is there something I am missing?

    AC compressor won't come on V70-XC70

    I suggest checking the pressostat switch by jumpering the two wires there, rather than hot wiring the compressor.

    You also want to check the fuse for the AC. With the blower in automatic, the AC is supposed to click on once just after engine start as the ECC unit does its diagnostics.

      Hi,

      Where is the pressostat? There is a switch in front of the alternator, but it has 3 wires, not 2. I removed the connector and tried jumping each pair of wires, but it had no effect. Is there another pressure switch elsewhere?

        Pressostat is on the low pressure line, just in front of the firewall. With the engine running, the AC on, and temps on the blue, jumper the wires and see if the clutch engages.

          AC compressor won't come on V70-XC70

          Hi,

          Tried jumping it, no joy. I also tested the switch, and it has continuity, so it works.
          On the compressor there is a little black box that the AC clutch wire goes into before it goes to the clutch. Any idea what that us, and is it possible that the wire has lost continuity in that box?
          I am thinking of pushing a needle in the last section of the wire before it goes to the clutch, and jump 12V there, that would tell me for sure whether the clutch is good or not.
