Rear suspension clunk--what am I missing? V70-XC70 1999

My 1999 V70 T5 has been causing me significant stress lately. About a month ago, I notices a sound from the driver's rear that sounded almost exactly like when the strut tops go out on the front.

I replaced the shock top mounts. Sound still there.

I replaced the shocks (they needed it anyways). Sound still there.

I took the spring out and reinstalled. Sound still there.

At this point, I was about to scream. I had my wife drive the car while I sat in the back and tried to figure where the sound was coming from. It seemed to come from the wheel arch area. That doesn't make sense.

Any guesses? I am completely baffled. The bushings look fine . . . should I replace those just to see?

unggthat did you ever find a solution to your problem? I'm experiencing a maddening mysterious clunk as well, though my car is an AWD...
