35MPH Without Stepping on the Gas - Now No Start 850 1997

Tried to start without success. Throttle cable was "buzzing" afterward. Hopefully an easy solution...

First, have a look at the plugs. Are they black and coated in soot?

If so, clean them of and start her up. Then try unplugging the MAF and see if it runs any better. It will set a code, and run in limp mode, but if the MAF is giving it faulty info as to how much air is going through it can really screw up the fuel mixture.

A large vacuum leak would be my next guess, are you sure the large intake hose isn't cracked? Have you taken off the intake manifold recently (ie PCV job)?

If you're not driving it "like its stolen," are you really driving?

I got a code reader and...P0117 "Coolant Temp Sensor Circuit Low"

20/20 tells me this is causing a big fuel dump, AMM is working to correct the fuel/air mixture and the car was accelerating to 35mph without my wife's foot on the pedal. i'll look at it this weekend.

Best place to start is to remove the cover over the throttle body and check for a gross leak. That vibration is the idle air control motor, also under the cover.

Thanks Klaus,

I cleaned the throttle body and IAC. No leaks that I could see. The car started, ran a little rough then smoothed out. Drove around the block and then the idle surged to 3000 RPM and stayed there for about 30 seconds, dropped down to normal ~800 RPM. I shut it off and tried to re-start = no start.

I don't have a code reader but i will shortly. Would disconnecting the + battery cable clear the code and permit the car to run normally?

I appreciate your help...

Most auto parts stores will let you borrow a scanner for parking lot use, free.

Disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes will zero any codes. It will also have to re-learn the engine/drive cycles which can take a while.

Still no start, so the AutoZone scanner borrow doesn't look like an option. I'll try a battery disconnect and reply back.

I appreciate all of your help!
