Transmission Oil Coolers V70-XC70

Gooday Gentlemen !

2001 V70 Geartronic.

I would appreciate your advice and comments on installing
a transmission oil cooler..
Would it be better to run it independently or
in series with the cooler attached to the radiator.

(Just finished doing a timing belt job.. It was a job trying
to try getting slide past the CrankPully thingy... Hate to admit it
fearfully, ended cutting the belt... I could not believe "How EASILY" the
new belt slipped in...wot-a-relief.)

Thanksa-lot,
GregP

Unless you tow a lot or constantly carry something on the roof top, I would say "don't bother". If the fluid gets too hot, the tranny is programmed to shift to a lower gear to increase fluid flow.

If you install an additional cooler, make sure it has a thermostat so that it can shut off when the temp is cold. You don't want to drive around all winter with cold oil which will damage internals and slow the shifting.

      Hi Klaus...

Thanks for ur prompt respose. My concern as the 2001 volvo will
frequently shifts with a jerk on hot days and towards the end of
a drive in heavy traffic... It is more pronounced when my son
drives it. This is my wife's car and she realy likes it.

If I find a convenient spot on the car I might go for
it and make sure it can be covered for winter drives.

      TakeCare,
      Greg
