Auto lock S80 01

To those of you who recently inquired about the availability of software for auto door locks, I read a tech note on the vadis cart that said it's coming. Volvo is working on software at this time that will lock doors when vehicle speed reaches 3mph. Unfortunately, it will only apply to cars built after a specific chassis number. I will try to post more details as they become available.

    There's been discussion in the automotive world that locked doors in crashed cars sometimes makes it difficult to extract folks inside. Some owner's manuals even suggest not locking doors when the car's occupied for this very reason.

    But there are times when locked doors are 'environmentally safe' because of what's outside your car.

      The current Volvo SRS system automatically unlocks the doors in the event of air bag deployment. Lock your doors for security, airbag unlocks them for you. Best of both worlds?

        Does my `98 unlock the doors upon airbag deployment?

        I got used to locking my doors when I lived in Houston (I get around, did y a notice?) due to the high number of car jackings there in the early-mid 90s.

        Ever since then, I feel absolutely naked and vulnerable with the doors unlocked. ESPECIALLY WITH MY 11 MONTH OLD SON IN THE CAR!!! Don't want someone reaching in to grab a purse and getting him instead! That's part of the reason I have the windows tinted, and dark in the rear (that and the fact that it made it easier for my wife to nurse him during road trips at the rest stops ;-)

    I just read that too.

    Another surprise (to me) is that the S80 auto dimming rear view mirrors amount of dimming is also adjustable with software (not warranty or free however) BUT I saw that question bought up here as well a while back.
