BRAKE FAILURE S80 1999

All the x'mas lights were ON!

Cleaned Throttle body. It had been idling erratic - idling nearly perfect now.
Replaced the ABS module ...

Lights still ON ...
Any advice?

Thanks in advance

If all of the dash lights are on, check the battery conections for corrosion. The ABS/TRKS light should have gone off after you went faster than 20mph.

Interesting that both experts responding latched on to "voltage" related items.
Let me track that down -

      Appreciate it.

The forum is awesome - where have I been?

      Cheers.

How is the fluid? Proper level, been flushed within the last year or two?

      Fluid is topped up ...
Have not flushed in the last 1-2 year though!

      One interesting event.
After I started it - the power seat & windows would not work while running ... OK when engine off.

Took for a short spin and seat windows started working ... weird!

      Any other thoughts?

Thanks so much for responding so quickly.

I am a couple of tries away from offering a real good deal to someone as I really do not have time & energy as I used to.

      Cheers,

How are your brakes working, well or awfully? It might be your alternator illuminating all the lights instead of the brakes, I can't recall how the S80 lets you know. Do you have a multimeter to check battery voltage while the engine is running and the lights are all on?

If its the brakes, it might be that air has gotten into the system, so a flush wouldn't hurt.

          Thanks again ...
Will find a way to flush - brakes could use help!

Good idea ref checking the alternator (battery) ...

            Finally got back to it.
            Alternator did NOT test well!
SO we may be ON to something.

They are d#@$ expensive - ouch!
Also, appears there are 2 types 120 amp and 140 amp ---
Investigating which one is right and appropriate.

Pull one from a junkyard before you buy a new one. I can't remember if the brushes can be replaced easily on these or not. If so it might be worth it to check if they're worn way down (and are the cause). I think a new set is like $30.

definitely definitely pull the alt and get it fixed at a local starter/alternator shop. They can potentially build it better than new for very little money.

                Expect ~$80?
