Front end overhaul 850

I have a front end that bottoms out and about to install Bilstein Touring struts,
and shocks,IPD sway bars, HD spring seats, HD sway bar end links, and a strut brace.

*I'm wondering if the strut springs go west? My car bottoms out especially
in slow speed turns. Is there something else to check?

* What's the procedure to keep the alignment close with installing
the new struts? I've seen that people mark the mount mount of the strut bracket
and the steering knuckle. There's also some measurement that helps maybe with
vernier calipers but I didn't understand that writeup.
(I know I'll need alignment afterwards)

Thanks, Bill

Struts keep the car from bouncing up and down, along with slowing the up and down movement. Springs seldom wear out, but they do break so be watchful with that. New struts should keep the car from 'nose diving' when stopping.

If you were replacing the struts with OEM, then scribing the original mount before removing would be helpful. In your case, don't worry about it. There is very little play in the strut mount holes and you will be able to drive to an alignment shop with out problems. The car might pull slightly, but any Boston car should be aligned annually anyway.

Hi Klaus,

You're right about Boston, loaded with front end testing grounds.
(Otherwise known as potholes)
I saw some shims for the strut bolts somewhere, is that ancient history
or something that needs doing.
Do the top rubber spacers need replacing at some interval ?

Thanks , Bill

No shims. The excessive torque makes shims impractable.

As to the other parts, some people replace everything. All I needed was new seats with the struts. And new bolts, of course.
