Tranny Flush results 850

I flushed my tranny last December and added Lucas Tranny Treatment at about
200K miles. It may have been the original fluid :-( very ugly!
I used about three gallons of Walmarts Tech stuff.
Now a little over 2000 miles on this fluid, the stuff looks cruddy.
Is this due to the Lucas treatment?
Should I reflush with the Walmart stuff or what? I thought Walmart had
a synthetic fluid, but they're out or stopped carrying it. What stuff is the
best? Is there a good inline tranny filter somewhere?

The Lucas stuff seemed to do a good job since the seal at the drivers CV joint
was weeping fluid, and it stopped. Apparently the seals respond well to
the conditioners.

Thanks, Bill

Since the fluid looks nasty, get yourself a case of a decent ATF and do the drain/refill, drive to mix, repeat, repeat thing.

After I did that, I did the whole thing again with a case of AMSOIL synthetic ATF.

That was on my daughter's car. Now it is my car (strange how the kids used to get my old cars, now it's reversed) At any rate, it is still going strong, and (in my opinion) worth the $100 or so for the fluid.

I would be wary of the SuperTech Fluid, I ran 2 gallons through my aw70 and 3 weeks later it looked like crap, i think its lower grade fluid and doesn't take the heat nearly as well. got mercon v in mine now with no problems yet

Before you flush again, with a cold tranny, drain the sump first and measure the amount that drains out. You will need a new aluminum crush washer, same size as for the oil plug. Add the 3 quarts or so back in and then slightly warm up the tranny (drive around the block). Then do the regular flush.

Yes, Lucas will 'clean' some internal parts and that will show up as black sludge looking stuff. Using Dex/Merc is quite all right if you flush every 25-35K miles. Synthetic ATF lasts much longer but the pricce is in the stratosphere for 12 quarts.

I have an inline filter, NIB, in a cabinet. I feel that there is too much restriction in the flow. The filter will only trap 'large' particles, not the fine stuff that discolors the fluid. Besides, the filter is supposed to be changed every 25K miles - why not just flush?

      Hi Klaus,

I did as you suggested, and got that mud ready for recycling at my
pal's garage heater. Do you see a need to add more tranny treatment now?

I think that I'll brush some never seez on the new retaining clips
for the tranny cooling lines. Maybe next time they'll behave more like new?

      Happy Fathers Day

      Bill

No to more seal treatment. You should be good to go for a couple of years. Have fun,
