New struts, sway bar, seats, etc 850

As many of you guys have recommended, I have decided to move forward with a significant suspension upgrade. I stopped by ipd and they recommend bilstein. Some have also told me to get xc90 seats, others say ipd. I'm not a hard driver and I don't want to break the bank. However, I don't want anything that isn't going to last at least another 5yrs.

First question, for sway bars: do I need the ipd end links too? What do they do?

Second question, will bilstein touring Struts be any better than these kyu or Monroe, or the oem variants? Do I need them or do I splurge on the sway bar kit and get regular old struts and shocks?

Last question, if I get the sway bars, do I need a strut tower brace? Any opinion either way is much appreciated.

Thanks,
David

The OEM endlinks usually last for about 3 years, the IPD endlinks are 5 years +.

No to the strut tower brace from IPD. If you regularly thrash your cars around corners, get an OEM tower brace - it is cheaper than IPD and you can still get to the brake fluid.

What's the story with an OEM tower brace? can FCP get it?

Heck, call Tasca Volvo and ask them. Probably cheaper than FCP.

Tasdca doesn't answer the phone and my local Volvo parts guy is befuddled.
Do you have a part nr or a suggestion where Volvo hides it?

Could be for a P2 car, I couldn't find it either. IPD is selling it for 10% off, which sounds like a good buy. I like the blue one!

              Klaus,

I found the part number for the Volvo strut brace,
9204176-3 , it was part of an S70 road handling kit
and is available separately from Volvo. It works for the 850's.
              Tasca quoted $223 Plus shipping.

              I went with the IPD @ $170.55 + shipping
They claim the brace doesn't interfere with the brake master cylinder
              or anything else.

Probably I could make something with a piece of angle iron or a broom handle
              for $8. :-)

IPD has a sale for 3 days starting today.

    Hi David,

There's plenty of opinions out there regarding suspension.
I asked around and decided on IPD street bars, Bilstein Touring struts and shocks, HD spring seats and end links.
The end links are a high mortality item and would likely fail faster with a heavier sway bar. The links have a swivel ball joint at either end to
join the bar to the strut.

I avoided the HD Bilstein struts and opted for the Bilstein Touring struts
and hope that the Bilstein's will outlast OEM struts (Sach/Boge).
    They have a fine reputation.

I'm getting a strut brace as well, to compliment the addition of the heavier sway bar and stiffen up the strut towers.

It's interesting that IPD sells a track bar kit, they say to order it just for racing since it introduces oversteer. I'll get the street bars since I'm not racing.

If you order from IPD, check out their wiper delay relay. A nifty addition.

    Good Luck,

    Bill
