Failed Rearview Mirror S80 2002

I own a 2002 S80 with all the upgrades except the turbo, 80,000 Miles.
My rear view mirror looks as if there's liquid behind the mirror. It's useless at night since you can't see any images in it. Called the dealer they told me a new mirror is 750.00 for the part alone. I hit a deer in February but I don't think the body shop will replace.
Were there bulletins that I missed? I cannot be the only person dealing with this issue. Any help, suggestions will be appreciated

I was just reading a post for a 2001 V70 with a failed mirror. Georgeandkira suggested swapping the current circuit board into the used unit, bypassing the need to 'reprogram'. Interesting...

Found a mirror restorer for Electro-chromatic mirrors of all kinds and that includes my S80. And it's really easy to do and reasonable. I was floored when I realized it's here in Texas! Just check out the link below. I'll be sending mine out this week!

You could call some of the local salvage yards. Give Erie Vovo (google them) a call and ask about a price. Dealers are nuts when they price parts.

Thanks KlausC...I gave your suggestion a try and got a response I'm still in shock over. Since mine is a Electrochromatic inside rearview mirror, It is strictly a dealer part, they are known to separate over time and Volvo has no intention of considering this a glitch. They have a chip inside that has to be reprogrammed and they are not available to aftermarket dealers!POOR ME!

Darn computers! I have yet to figure out why some of these options need to be linked to other computers. There is an old fashioned rearview mirror that you might be able to use instead of the automatic dimming mirror, but I don't know if that will alter the overhead 'computer'.

My wife has a similar problem with the diagnostic display in her 2001 A4 Audi, $750 to replace the dash module which only works if the cabin temperature is below 70F, soon it will be 60F.

I agree with the computer thing. I'm luckily not into the years where the problem of every component being linked to the computer comes in to play, but I'm damn scared to get involved in all that.

To be honest, I'm not quite sure how it's even legal - people should be able to have their cars serviced wherever they choose, and I believe in the US there are laws that are supposed to protect that... Being a Canadian I'm unfamiliar with US laws, but I must admit I don't know what the applicable laws are in my own country either.
