rough idle suspected ETM issue V70-XC70 1999

Have a rough idle, smell of sulfur and 'check engine' light flashes when excelerating. ETM was replaced once at a dealer in 2007 already. light engine surging has existed for years, but never anything like this.

    okay, we know its a a vacuum leak.. i looked over all vacuum lines and really found nothing, so did my dad.. anyone have suggestions.. anything crack more than anything else. pictures maybe??

      There are vacuum lines to your turbo that go to the boost controller(by the battery). Also a vacuum line under/to the left of cylinder #1, very hard to see and prone to breaking.

      If you have a NA engine, inspect the air hose from the filter to the throttle body.

        NA engine? This is a turbo car so I suspect that is void info for this car?

        Ironically I just came back from getting codes read and amazingly 2 air leaks.. what you told me about the turbo is news to me, back to the garage

    Usually a flashing check engine light means multiple misfires, sulphur = rich burn, rough idle = vacuum leak.

    Find the vacuum leak and it should solve all.

      the problem was caused apparenlty by nothing we discussed here.. oil had leaked onto a sparkplug over the years and was causing mis-fire...
      cleaned the spark plugs, runs like new
