I recently replaced the rotors and installed Mintex pads on FCP's recommendation.

Wow they are dirty. Is this just break in dust or are they
filthy throughout their life? I can't see how that dust
can help the ABS sensors and anything else. Did I select the wrong pads?

FWIW, I installed Mintex pads on the rear of my daughter's S40 about a year ago.
Like yours, they were very dusty for a few hundred miles or so.
Pretty much dust free now.
