key in ignition can do a 360?!? V70-XC70 1999

Soo.. key in the ignition doesn't quite stop when back in position "0". Have to jiggle it to get it out sometimes and it is affecting locking the doors as the car thinks the key is still in the ignition. Car goes into positions 1 & 2 and it turns over fine however, I am worried that is going to be short lived. :(

Got quotes on both parts from dealer but said they wouldn't be able to tell which needs to be replaced without seeing it... as always. Augh! From what I can find looks like I could do this myself.

Any thoughts on which is bad...cylinder or switch?

Thanks in advance for any help!

The electrical portion is cheaper, start with that. Take the plastic clam shell off the steering wheel and DIY. With the switch out, you can turn it with a screwdriver. It is supposed to stop at pos III and spring back to pos II.

While the cylinder is exposed, note the cable on the rear and give it a drop of oil where it slides into the cylinder. That cable is part of the shift lock and will eventually get gunked up and cause problems. Do not use WD40, just a drop of oil is enough.

The replacement of the lock is quite expensive and requires a dealer download.
