97 Volvo 850 alarm -- HORN 850

After reading about the alarm system in this 97 850, I wanted to see how it works. Unlocked door, sat inside the car, closed the door, and did not put in the key. After about a minute the doors locked. Cool. I could unlock them by hand. So I then put in the key and tried to crank the vehicle, and it DEAD. All dash lights lit up when trying to crank by clearly the vehicle was disabled. Dont know exactly when the emergency flashers started, but they did, however the horn never sounded. Should the horn sound as well? If so, could the previous owner have disconnected it, and where? Your input most appreciated. Thanks.

The alarm horn is on the firewall. Don't bother with the noise maker, anyone who hears it will not investigate if the vehicle is broken in to.

On my 1998, the horn will not sound unless one of the doors has been opened with the alarm set. Try it, roll the window down, lock the car, wait at least 1 minute, and then reach in and open the door without the key.

I followed the instruction, and the flashers came on as well as the vehicle would not start as you said. However the horn never sounded. I looked against the firewall and see the horn right in the middle of it. Unclipped the connector and reconnected just in case it wasn't securely fitted, and tried the procedure again but the horn still did not sound. Horn may be bad?

Just take a wire from the 12V battery and junp the horn to test it. They do go bad from salt spray.
