Drivers seat won't move back and forth V70-XC70 2004

Drivers seat will move up and down but not back and forth. clicking noise when trying to go back and forth .do you think the hole unit must be changed sort of hard when the wifes legs are so much shorter thanks Ben

    Does the Memory switch also not work? If Memory works, then it is a fault in the switch. You could also have some error codes stored in the seat computer preventing the operation - this has happened in the S80s and clearing the codes fixed the problem. To scan the seat codes, you will need a professional Volvo scanner.

    Or you could have a coin or two living in the seat rail.

      Thanks klaus for the responce Just checked the memory codes which don't move the seat but pushing #1 and #2 I get clicking under the hood. still the seat moves back and forth. also(don't see any change in the rails)

        The clicking you hear is probably the relays, which means the switches are OK. Unless you have a Volvo scanner, you cannot get to the seat computer to clear its codes. Generic scanners don't work. Disconnecting the battery also won't work.

        You could check the battery connections to make sure they are tight. Have you started the engine to see if that helps? An 8 year old battery could be problematic, but I doubt it in this instance.

        There is also a large fuse for overload conditions, but that is supposed to last forever.
