We've owned our 1998 V70 now since November 0f 2010 and have put over 6000 miles on it and I have yet to have the 'Service Engine' light come on yet.

The light bulb is not burned out as I see it every time I start the car.

Is this normal? Can removing the battery for an extended period of time reset this?

Any thoughts?

    Unless you have a special tool to turn off the light, you cannot turn it off. There are a couple of settings which will turn the light on and they are mileage based, somewhere between 5-10K miles.

    When the light comes on, it will turn off after 2 minutes from engine start.
