Power steering coming out of inner tie rod end boot V70-XC70 2000

I can use some help folks.

My daughters 2000 v70 XC is leaking power steering fluid out of the passengers side inner tie rod end boot. Am I looking at a rebuilt rack or are there serviceable seals that can be replaced ?

Does anyone out there have any experience ?

Thank you in advance,
John

Sounds more like a seal, which can be replaced. In the mean time, tell your daughter to back off a little when she has the wheel turned to lock.

Klaus,

Thank You.
You Da Man!
Do you know of any websites out there detailing the changing of said seals?
Should I start it up after I've taken the seal out to "blow out" foreign material?
Do you recommend a filter in the return line as I've seen elsewhere in the forum?
I used to keep a cow magnet attached to the dipstick on my 940's to trap/attract any ferrous particles.

Does anyone else have any pointers ?

Thank you again to his community keeping the Old Iron on the road,

John.

Changing the seals is a real pain. But, over on Matthews Volvo, here is what Ozark Lee had to say:

The racks themselves tend to leak at the seals as well. That is a very expensive change. I had a rack leak in my platinum edition when I bought it and, to my surprise, replacing the fluid with Valvoline high mileage automatic transmission stop leak actually fixed it.

In my case I sucked out what little was left in the reservoir with a turkey baster - filled it with the new stop leak stuff - ran the rack from lock to lock a couple of times and then repeated the process. I think I did that three or four times.

It has not leaked a drop of fluid since.

At the end of the day it cost under $10.00 for two quarts and it worked. Even if it didn't work I think the $10.00 investment would have been worth it for the try. If you do need a new rack the rebuilt racks from FCP Groton have an excellent reputation and they are priced right.

Try to find Lucas Power Steering Stop Leak which works, for an alternative to tranny fluid.
