Did Auto to Manual Swap this weekend, runs but doesn't start . . . 850 1995

Finally . . . did my tranny swap this weekend. It's a 95 850 Turbo, put in a donor transmission from a 93. I jumped pins 6 to 7 on the plug that used to go to the autobox, but it does not start on it's own. All I have is a Haynes manual to diagnose the PNP switch . . . anyone have any tips for me?

Note I did put a new starter in the car while I had it apart to do the swap. I can't imagine it's not working since it is new, but it is certainly possible. Any tips on how to diagnose that without having to pull it out of the car would be fantastic.

Any help appreciated - it was nice to take it around the block with the new tranny . . . but I had to push start it. No error lights, and the reverse lights work too (also jumped on the plug that used to go to the auto box)

Ah ha - solved it quickly enough after pulling the starter out, it had another signal wire tab on the bottom side of the unit, which was the one I needed to use to get the solenoid to fire, I just didn't catch that difference when I was putting it in and I couldn't see it when I hooked up the wires since it was on the bottom side. Stupid mistake - but at least I figured it out and now it starts like a champ.

You did a dumb thing, not stupid thing. Stupid is a label for people who refuse to learn, dumb is for people that learn and sometimes forget.

I was trying to go through all sorts of other reasons why the starter didn't engage. I am glad you worked it out.

That 5 speed must be great with the turbo! Just be kind to the clutch in 1st gear, that's a lot of torque.

Thanks Klaus - I haven't pushed it too hard in first gear yet, only a tiny bit in 2nd and 3rd. It has a slight grind, about half the time, going into 5th. Oh well, just keep driving. My fuel economy has jumped 2-3 points already which is nice since this is mostly a freeway hauler.

I hear I can cut a pin off of my cruise control relay to get that working again - but don't know where the relay is located. I just pulled the relays under the steering wheel and none seemed to match up, and haynes simply says "no information at time of publishing" - do you know where that guy is hidden in the car?

Thanks again Klaus - it would have taken me a long time to find that relay tucked next to the fuse box under the hood. Cruise Control working again - ready for my road down the coast next week. Very curious to see how the mileage does. I do this trip regularly and have typically averaged 23-24 mpg. If my short local trips are any guide, it looks like I may be averaging 26-27 with the manual in !
