A/C schrader valve tool source V70-XC70 1999

Does anyone have a source to buy a schrader valve tool that will fit the A/C filler valve? Have to do R&R on 850 and V70XC. Alternatively, a link to a DIY tool fabrication instruction perhaps...

thanks to all
Sherm

nope. you haven't seen older posts.... the stores all sell a "fits all A/Cs" that doesn't fit one car... you guessed it.

I wonder if you had a deep walled socked and notched it to fit over the sides of the valve, if that would work well as the tool. You should be able to find one small enough to fit in there I think...

As a 10+ yr BB'er, I find it hard to believe that while we are dreaming up Rube Goldbergs, there isn't someone on the BB that knows where to buy the actual tool...

I think its quite uncommon to need to remove the valve, and I think most people still give up when it comes to A/C service. Anyway, Here is a picture of what the volvo tool looks like I don't have dimensions, sorry. I'd just take a cylinder that fits in (I'd use a socket just because then turning it would already be solved) and cut out enough that it it fits over the valve body, and then unscrew...

Snap-on has it, but that costs a lot more than the $10 valve.

I should have experimented on mine before I gave up and had a shop replace it. A barrel from a ball point pen should also work, just use a hacksaw to cut the notch.

Thanks guys. Will chase down the Snap-on truck that stops at my local Dealer. I IMHO, I don't think that removal is so uncommon as you opine... I have a V70XC and an 855T that both have valves that have suddenly started to leak. Glad that Harbor Freight has all the other goodies, I refuse to pay the dealer's vig on this.

One of the local dealers quoted me $350+ to replace the $10 valve. Go to the dealer and pick up the new valve, there are 2 types and only one fits.

As to finding if the evap leaks, my local AC specialist said that he can stick a probe into the center dash vent and check for R134a gas.

The least of the worries of pulling out the dash is the airbag. Two torx screws and it is out - just leave the ignition off. If you do the disassembly, take pics constantly so you know where the screws go and how the wires are arranged. Fix the dash mounts while you are at it. You will need to visit Snap-on to get the proper tools for removing installing the lines to the evap.

After I had my valve replaced (AC shop), along with the bread clip fix, the AC lasted for 4-5 weeks before I needed a new 12oz can. Much better than every 2 days!
