S70 trunk lid struts S70 1998

Well, I ordered trunk struts yesterday at 4 PM from Amazon and somehow, the goods for the S70 and the 780 arrived today. I read the posts about removing trunk liner but it did not look necessary to me and it was not. About a 10 min. job with a long pry bar to pop the body end bracket and the thin screw driver to back the spring clip out at the lid end. The new strut snapped into place at both ends, seat the bracket and the rear spring clip and voila. Do not mess with the trunk liner, I'd advise.

S70 trunk lid struts S70 1998

Hi Bob:

I've made the jump over to AWD from RWD-- finding a good rust free RWD Volvo was getting pretty tough up here in the Canadian rust belt... I recently picked up a 2000 V70 w/~130K mi-- so far, no regrets!

What was the pricing like on the trunk struts from Amazon? What make are they? The tailgate struts on my V70 seem like they might need renewing before the weather gets cold and the gas pressure goes down...

There are 3 versions of struts; sedan, sedan w/spoiler, and station wagon.

Very cold weather is a problem with the wagon, the struts don't seem to like the gas shrinking in volume and it will slam shut.

Amazon and Sachs got it right, S70 with spoiler, perfect balance. And on the 780 too, which I was more skeptical about.

Stabillus, which I believe are Sachs and possibly OEM for about $28 each, S70 and 780.
