Aftermarket muffler opinions 850 1995

I need to change the muffler on my '95.
Basically I need to save as much money as possible so performance exhausts from IPD etc. are not an option.

It looks like it is down to either a Bosal or Walker (Starla) since both of those go for around 2 hundred and change or so.
Neither of those brands have lasted much more than about 2 years in the past on my 140s, so I'm a little reluctant.
Just looking for other opinions. Even less money would be helpful!!

You will also need a new rear hanger, new OEM muffler changed the hanger position. A clamp and bolts were needed when I did mine, just a little rusty. Beware, the muffler and pipe are one long piece - from the cat back. The car needs to have the rear elevated at least 18 inches, quite high, 24 inches would be best.

Not bad, especially if it's a "Volvo Genuine Part". Pricewise, it's about the same as the Walker and Bosal systems that were aftermarket. Will have to give them a call though, because the listing is only for 850 without turbo. I have a feeling with or without is the same system, but will have to check. Also want to know what other hangers are needed. I wish there was an illustration of the what they're selling. At any rate, thanks for the lead.

As for getting the car in the air, the rear wheels were on ramps that put it about 10 inches up. Then had to jack up the body 1 or 2 more inches. Still was very tight getting the muffler out. I doubt I'd be able to install a new one with the same setup and will have to raise the whole car as you suggested.

This car is almost road ready.

There is only one hanger, behind the muffler. The 1995 was superceeded in 1996-7 and the hanger moved a little to the rear, welded to the pipe. It's not a big deal, just a pain to have to remove another small part.

The turbo exhaust is different than the NA.

When installing the pipe to the CAT, have a helper push the exhaust pipe forward while you tighten the clamp and it will fit much easier.

Darn engineers should have made the straight pipe a separate piece. I have never seen preforation of the stainless steel pipe.

BTW, you could get some 500F flat black and give the new muffler a couple of coats. It just looks better.

Great minds think alike! I usually do do that to the exposed muffler parts.
I agree that it looks better and stands up to time as well.

I wonder if anyone makes a high temp zinc paint for mufflers.
I don't know if ordinary high zinc (90%) paint will fall off hot muffler parts?
