Brake Job 2002 XC70 V70-XC70 2002

My son and I are planning to replace pads and rotors at all 4 corners. Our first time for this, so we'd appreciate any tips!

Are there items that are typically worn out or that get damaged in doing this job?

Any one-time-use nuts or bolts that should be purchased before starting to pull things apart?

Do the front wheels first, the rear are a bit more complicated because of the parking brake shoes. All bolts can be reused. Grab a wire coat hanger, make it into a hook to hold the caliper on the strut spring. Stop at an autoparts store for a squeeze tube of silicone brake grease, about $1.25 each, usually sold at the counter, a little goes a long ways.

When you remove the slide pins, clean them completely of old dried grease and dirt, lube them nicely.

The rotors may be difficult to get off, rust on the hub. Gental persuasion with a hammer might be needed. Use a wire brush to get all of the crud off the hub and coat the clean hub with a thin coating of brake grease before putting the new rotor on.

For the rear, loosen the handbrake at the center console first. Examine the two metal pieces that connect the cable to the shoe separator. Clean and grease if needed - especially grease.

Have fun and use a jack stand or hydraulic jack.
