Timing belt new or original? S60 2003

How do I tell if the timing belt has been changed
Are there indicators of wear and tear/part numbers on the belt that would give me a clue
Please respond soonest
Mort

In your owner's manual there is a chart that tells you the mileage AND time that the belt should be used - as well as all services that you may need.

BTW - a good tech can inspect it, but you should be conservative as to changing it - a broken belt will result in serious damage.

I have yet to see a shop (dealer or indepentant) not put a sticker in the engine compartment with miles/date of belt change. What is the car milage??
Inspection of the belt would help..... an 8 yr. old belt looks "old" vs a belt
with a year or two of service....

The sticker is the best but one thing to keep in mind that belts don't just have a mileage lifespan, but also an absolute time lifespan.

The longest you can reliably expect a belt to last is about 10 years, so if you come to the conclusion that you have a belt that is approximately that old you need to change it even if you are under the mileage interval.
