I own a 2006 S40 T5 AWD. I just had it into the dealer to have the oil changed and was told that the front wheel bearings are shot and are making noise. They quoted me $425.00 per side which in my opinion is rediculous. I trying to find step by step instructions on how to do the repair myself. I've replaced bearings on an American car. Does anyone know how to do this repair or where I can get step by step instructions on how to do this repair. Secondly is it recommended to replace the entire wheel assembly or will just replacing the bearings themselves be sufficient?

I just had both front wheel bearing assemblies replaced on my 2006 S-40 with 73000 miles. Car was covered by CPO so I don't know how much it cost.

The bearings cannot be replaced, the assembly must be replaced. Which makes the job that much easier.

I don't have torque specs so I am not going to tell you how it is done.

Are you sure the bearings are bad already? Can you wobble the wheel? Do they make noise?

Thanks I haven't done anything really. I took my Volvo in to the dealership for an oil change and they told me that the wheel bearings were bad and making noise. I had mentioned to them that I heard some really annoying road noise and thought maybe it was the tires, but wasn't sure. They tech came back and told me that it wasn't the tires but the wheel bearings are shot. I've changed wheel bearings on American cars, is the replacement of the wheel hub assembly easy?
