Tune Up 850 1995

I am thinking of doing a tune up on my 850 GLT,(Just bought) I am fairly handy and work on my 240 ( 1988) all the time.

Is it difficult?

I am planning on doing , plugs, wires, caps, rotor, filters...anything else I should know or do...any tips, problems or anything I should be aware of, I will of course replace with Volvo parts from IPD..

Thanks in advance for your help

Alan

    Re: Tune Up 850 1995

    Alan,

Take out the air box to get good access to the distributor cap, plus you get the chance to clean the air box. Remove and check under the battery tray. My battery had leaked some acid and it got under the tray and on the cruise control vacuum motor, which lives under the battery tray. Again, a good opportunity to clean things up. The flame trap and all it's plastic components can be bought for under $5 at the dealers, I strongly suggest changing them. Note: the coil wire is sold separately from the plug wires. The job should give you no problems at all. Good luck.

    Re: Tune Up 850 1995

I am in the middle of doing a tune-up right now on my '96 850 GLT. Things to consider:

On non-turbo, clean the flame trap and the trottle body, at least the clean the trottle body from the exterior side with a good aerosol cleaner. I claned a lot of gunk and crud from mine this morning.

Do a compression test. This will indicate the health of the engine at the start of it's history with you.

Lubricate the little things: linkage points, threads etc to make things easier for yourself in the future.

    Good Luck,

    TR
