Fuel Question 850

The other day I was reading a post about oxygen sensors and read that this Volvo engine should premium gasoline. I live in Michigan where I think they've just increased the amount of ethanol that gasoline producers can add to gas. Is this true?? I'm wondering why? Is there an alternative to running premium gas....possibly an additive?

    ANSWER Fuel Question 850

Almost all gasoline sold in the USA has 10% ethanol added. That will increase due to lobbiest pressure, it also increases the price of corn and most everything you eat.

Yes, your car does need premium gasoline. Remember, all gasoline sold in northern Europe is premuim, they have only one kind unlike the USA with 3 levels.

Most octane boosters cost a lot more than regular gasoline + the additive. Read the additive bottle list of ingrediants, you will find a lot of alcohol.

If you think premuim costs too much, look at the price of diesel!!!
