What's With My Wipers? 850 1997

OK, my wipers, in particular the drivers side, do not wipe the entire windshield. Thought it was simply the actual wiper blade, so replaced, but same thing. Tried to tweak arm to apply more pressure across the wiper stroke, no go. Thought I read that the fix was to replace with S/V70 arms, but can't find that post.

So, the question is, is replacing them with S/V70 arms the fix or am I missing something obvious. No need to buy used arms if I don't have to. It's been raining here off and on for 3 days and to say this is annoying would be an understatement.

Thanks, Mike

Take the drivers side arm off, wrap the "dog leg" portion of the arm in a rag or two, and clamp it in a bench vice and flatten it out as much as possible. Reinstall and the blade will now make good contact with the glass. Or you could replace it

Thanks, the old post took me, eventually, to Mattews Volvo, where it was. Not used to going there as I've only owned RWD Volvo's until a few weeks back. Need to think a bit more. Thanks again.

      Mike

1998-2000 S/V70 wiper arms will work. Bending the 850 wiper arm down by the pivot point will help for a while.

When replacing the blades, get the new style with the builtin spring. They clip onto the arm and work much better than the old OEM style.

It is not the wipers. For our 1995 850 turbo sedan, it is the base of the wiper. We used the $30 solution (i.e., bring it back to its position with heat) at year 9, and a few days ago at year 18. Good luck.
