cleaning the fan for the ECC temp sensor V70-XC70 2004

I have looked at some of the posts about cleaning the temperature sensor fan for the Electronic Climate Control and it seems like it is easy to screw up by disconnecting or reconnecting the battery, removing the console, etc., etc. Is there a work around to clean the fan so the ECC thermostat will work ? Has anyone done this ? How did it go ?

Thanks

Greg

Unless you are getting codes for the ECC, put a crevice nozzle on your vacuum cleaner and suck the dust out.

I have no idea where the cabin temp sensor is on the 2004. Or if it is different than the 1998-2000 cars.

      Klaus,

      I'll try that.

There are three little slots above the passenger side temperature control. I believe the little fan lives back there.

I have a 2004 v70 and find the Temp control is not performing too well(??).
I see dust in the 3 slot area. Let us know how the vac. works.

careful with the cleaning, you don't want to brake the connection between those 2 small wires behind that little grill.

A thermistor is welded at the tip of those 2 wires. You brake that thermistor weld and you are SOL, your CCM won't work.

You are correct on the location, its on/in the climate control area.

I would try the vacuum idea but don't go full throttle, baby it a bit as there is some finesse required.

If you are dealing with some large accumulation try some canned air (not too much) and see if you can stir it up.

All else fails you can remove the ECC interface similar to the procedure to installing a new radio...I do believe there is a youtube video showing how to do....and once you have access to the rear you may find the overall procedure easier -again useful if you are really clogged up. If it's just light dust the vacuum should work fine.
