So I'm looking for another volvo wagon. I've had an 88 and 95. Both wagons with the third row seat facing backward. Looking for a relatively newer wagon, what happened to the third row seat. Is there a year and/or model where this is discontinued? Can't find anything 1998 and later that has it???

On an unrelated note, do all newer models require premium fuel?

It was/is an option in the V/XC 70, as well as the 855. They exist, but are hard to find in some areas. Remember, Volvo says not for children over 90lbs or so and no car seats back there.


Fuel, Volvo always had high compression and asked you to use premium. The turbos have lower compression, until you ask for the boost, and might run on 89 octane.
Use of 87 octane will probably destroy the headgasket, clog the exhaust valves, and leave a dirtier engine.

I agree the third row is not really all that practical, but my kids love it for tailgating at parades and stuff like that.

Found a few v70's here in south central u.s., no third row seats yet...still looking.
