The film was stuck onto the paintwork such as the hood and under the headlights to protect it from insects and stone chips whilst on long country drives and appears to be the 3m mentioned by Klaus ,so i will try his removal method and post back. Thanks to all for your advise. David

Are you sure it's a protective film? Given the age of the car, I'm inclined to think it's the clear coat that is beginning to peel.

If by the front of the car you mean the front edge of the hood, this happened on my 745t and is beginning to happen on the leading edge of the hood on the wife's 945t. Not pretty once it starts to go. The paint will be exposed underneath and quickly oxidize. This will spread as the clearcoat continues losing it's grip on the paint. If it is what I'm thinking, a paint shop can help you out.

If it isn't, in the words of Roseanna Roseannadanna, "Oh, Nevermind."

If you are talking about the 3M film, it needs to be warm to be pulled off. Do NOT use a heat gun, a hair dryer on the warm setting is hot enough! Remember, warm, like on a sunny day in august, but in the shade.

Alcohol is your friend, it disolves the glue and mixes with water. A 50:50 solutin in a spray bottle will work.

Start in a inoccuous corner, like on the fender, and using a fingernail, pry up a little bit. Once enough is forced up, start peeling it off slowly. The plastic will stretch and never go back to its original shape.

Once the plastic is off, wipe using alcohol and a soft towel. Wash with soap and water and then use paste wax to seal and protect the paint.

More details . . .

"front of car" means what?

Bumper? Painted surfaces? Plastic grill-work? Windshield?

All of the above?

What is the origin of this film?

Something unknown that stuck to the car while driving on the highway?

A new part that came with the film attached?

??????????
