mysterious oil smoke V70-XC70 2004

I have an XC70 with about 155K on the car. I have noticed that if I let the car idle for a warm up period of approximately 5-10 minutes, there is a tremendous oil smoke cloud when I drive away. If I only let the car warm up for a couple minutes and drive off there is no oil smoke cloud what so ever.
Question is this, could there be oil leaking into the turbo chamber during the warm up of a longer time period and then moving into the intake or is there something else that could cause this? Anyone seen this before?

First of all, New England doesn't get cold enough to warrant long idling. Besides wasting gasoline and getting hot spots on the block, it is bad for the engine. I know, parked outside and getting the frost off the windows while the car warms up... just a waste of gasoline. That's why Volvo installed heated seats. Besides, if it is snowing, you don't want a warm windshield that will melt and have the water freeze into your wiper blades.

Now, as to the smoke. Can you tell if it is coming from the exhaust pipe or just from under the car? If from under the car, it could be oil from the turbo leaking onto the exhaust pipe and smoking away.

If the cloud is black, it is gasoline. Blue is oil.

Thanks for the free advice, I am leaning toward a turbo. Seems the more folks I talk to the more it seems that this is the issue. It is the oil smoke out of the exhaust pipe that makes this seem like the right choice for replacement.

Appreciate your assessment of the NE states as far as cold goes, but the older I get the better the south looks for better climate on the old bones...

Usually, went the turbo goes you will see white clouds of smoke come out of the exhaust. Unburned oil reaching the exhaust will look like a stunt plane with a plume of smoke.

The black smoke comes from the cylinders, which usually points to the valve seals allowing oil vapors to get into the manifold and then burned. This is most common during long periods of idling or long down hill stretches when the engine vacuum is the highest.
