2004 XC90 REAR DIFF NOISE XC90

I have recently got a 2004 xc90 from a dealer trade they said there was something wrong with the read diff, when I drove it home you could hear a rubbing noise like a bad center bearing, I took it to a volvo shop today and when in the air with the car in drive you coulod hear a grinding noise ,the drive shaft was going around but the rear wheels were not turning . there was some fluid around the top of the diffso something was leaking. any ideas could it just be the front of the diff or the whole thing thanks

Another thought. Could it be the Haldex unit is out of oil? Haldex also has a filter which is supposed to be changed at 40K miles or so.
