Sons V70 does not display Check Engine V70-XC70 1998

Know that the cel works goes on when ignition is on

When he bought the car the guy said that the key cylinder should be replaced because when you start the car need to back off a bit to get head lights working etc.

I think the previous owner jerry-riked the cel so it does not display when error codes occur. Unsure how he did but sure seems like it.

Son bought a odbII monitor. This is after we failed inspect.

Don't remember specific #'s but
MaF sensor
Large Evap leak

We replaced MAF and one of the hoses on the canister was detached completely, attached codes gone.

Now he is reading a MAP and bank 1 pre-cat 02 sensor.

Still the check engine light does not come on.

Is it possible to disable the feed to the cel?

madness

It was late last night and my thinking cap was aleready in bed. The code reader is picking up codes, like it should, but the codes have not repeated enough to turn the CEL on.

When a MAP really fails, you will run slightly richer unless you are at altitude and this could cause the front O2 sensor to read rich. Many times, both of these conditions go away and resolve themselves.

I would put in a new ignition switch - the left side of the steering wheel that connects all of the electrics, not the right side which has the key in it. Easy to do.

No, you cannot disable the CEL as far as I know. But a faulty CEL can be caused by a bad ignition switch.

PS I am NOT going to respond to your other post about getting messages upside down!!! I hope you didn't fry the electrics, there is a specific way to replace batteries in the newer cars.
