It's a lovely gas hog, and a joy to cruise the highways in, but the window...
From new the driver's window has not auto-upped right. The colder the weather, the more apt the window is to stall and reverse part way up. The dealer has repeatedly reinitiated the computer, but it does no good. The mechanism has been checked and lubricated. A new regulator has been put in and last week a new window motor was installed. Two nights later at near zero F the window did it again.
Any ideas?

I took it back to the shop again on Monday. The service manager sent the tech out to talk with me. They had the car for about two hours (the waiting room is a solarium with a Keurig machine) and James W Hall to entertain me while I waited. The window works.
They took the track out and widened it up a bit. Funny that I had been telling them about the hitch partway up...
This morning it is pretty cold and when I went outside to try the window it worked. Fixed? Maybe.
Thanks, Klaus.

My wife's Odyssey did this and the dealer replaced the window regulator and it's been fine since.
But if it hadn't been under warranty, I would have tried spraying some silicone lubricant into the window tracks and on the rubber seals.

The ol' Volvo has been relegated to Costco/Home Depot and occasional RR station/airport duty and I telecommute, so it doesn't break quite as often as it used to.
I also waste more of my time on the Porsche board now.
Hope you and family are well!

Happy Groundhog Day.
My family is doing fine. I guess. Life Partner and I are headed for Equador in a couple of weeks, still wandering around the planet.

The relay (I think) has an amperage draw that if exceeded will stop the window from going up. No need to cut off fingers! If it always stops going up at the same spot, there is a bind in the window chanel.
Your dealer needs to contact the regional factory rep.

It seems that simple to me too, but I'm not tearing the door apart-not for a warantee problem. The dealer has consulted what they call the "hot line" several times. I have talked to the salesman, a fifty year employee of the dealership, and am waiting to hear back. I expect that to happen on Monday. I put no rush on my request.

I agree with not fixing it yourself. But, you shouldn't let the dealer sit on it while he finds a mechanic that can do more than oil changes. Ask to have a regional rep look at the car. The reps spend their life going from dealer to dealer to 'educate' the mechanics on how to properly fix a car.
The 'hot line' means that the dealership has no clue. Tell them to get on the ball and repair your car. You didn't buy it to have it sit in the parking lot.

They want to see the car again to try the hot line. The service manager told me that they have to exhaust that avenue before they call the rep. Is this bilgewater? Smells kind of fishy. The dealer is a ways away. It costs me ten bux to drive there and home. If I take their car it just piles up. Should I find the rep myself?

Correct, the dealer has to call the Rep. Talk to the service manager and let him know your time and commute are not free - and you still have to pour gasoline into the rental as well as your car.

Klaus: does the 2009 use an Alarm Module similar to the one I just replaced (leaking battery)on my wife's 2003XC. I was amazed at how many simple window and door functions it was involved with. Could this 2009 problem be related to an pre-mature failure in the Alarm module??????

I doubt that the battery on the alarm is kaput. Just inept mechanics that don't like working outside the engine bay.
