Sydney Volvo Dealer - A Warning if you Hate Fires... 850 96

A while back I had the Turbo and steering rack replaced on my 850R by a Sydney Volvo dealer. Anyhow, after a while I pick up my car and drive home to see the coolant light come on. The thing needs more coolant so I call the service guy and he says air trap blah blah (despite green coolant under the car)... I also note a faint fuel smell so he says see how it goes.

So next day I'm driving the car with my other half and the light comes on again. More coolant. Only now the fuel smell is in the cabin. We go home and get the other car to go out. I call the dealer guy and he says bring the car in on Monday.

Monday - I drive the car over only it doesn't make it. Barks like a dog (woof - the sound it made when the fire started). Lucky for me the Police Rescue guys are at the intersection where I'm parked and they put the fire out pronto.

Take the car to the dealer and tell them I think they better think about what happened because I thought they might (!!!!!!!) be responsible in some way.

Weeks later they hit me with the bill for $4180 (+). They tell me they didn't find any leaks of coolant or fuel and the fuel lines were burnt away.

Today we had a hearing with the repair council. They say they found the fuel connector above the steering rack loose and it had spanner marks on it. They also said they never found any leaks when checking the car before I took it (they don't check their work because I took the car again after the fire damage and the steering locked solid in turns causing me to end up on the wrong side of the road).

Bottom line - I'm out of pocket for over 4 gorillas and they seem to think I sabotaged the car (they didn't quite say it directly). Everything they've touched on this car I've had to have refixed - absolutely everything!

The guy who worked on my car and the original service advisor 'conveniently' left just after I lodged my claim.

So, I thoroughly recommend you avoid them - they are called Sydney City Volvo. I'm normally understanding but these guys are liar scum. Their story changes every time I talk to them. Steer clear people!!!

(My apologies to all the decent Volvo techs out there who know to admit it when they make mistakes - I know I make mistakes!!!)

I too am sorry to hear about your car Pete as I know that you've had a few previous problems with it as well. I can't imagine what went wrong as you're story is unusual but I hope you get it resolved one way or another. Good luck.

Unfortunately it is up to me to prove that they are in the wrong. Without the access to the car that was asked for initially I don't think I have the data I'd need. Maybe this is another lesson learnt! Volvo have cancelled my warranty so I do all the work myself now. That way I know it's done right. Unfortunately, people like Richard K. and yourself are in theminority at Volvo (ie. you're INTO the cars).

When I save up enough money again I'll buy a new V70R manual (when they make them again) and flog it stupid under warranty. What goes around comes around!!!!

By the way, the 850R wagon is running A1 now. I love it to death when it goes like it is now!

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. I hope that you nail the bastages for every penny that is due. I know your pain all too well, just not to the point of fire erupting in my engine. I do not know the laws in Aussie, but it looks like you are on the right track. Best of luck to ya. Flush the pricks down the danny! Sounds like they deserve it. Anyone that suggests that a customer continue to drive a vehicle when raw fuel is able to be detected in the passenger compartment needs to have their head examined. I am glad to hear that nobody got hurt. Good luck!

    Prospero
