1995 850 T5R 3rd cylinder not firing, help! 850

My 1995 850 T5R was running great yesterday when it started raining heavily and started missing badly. I checked all the spark plugs and the wires showed each plug was getting spark. I swapped plugs and the #3 cylinder still didn't fire. I removed the each spark plug wire one at a time to check if the car would miss and only #3 didn't change. I removed each injector wire one at a time and only #3 didn't change anything. I swapped the #2 and #3 injectors and only #3 failed to fire. So, I checked the codes and would you believe that the only code that was in the haynes book out of the ten codes found was the one that says that #3 fuel injector isn't getting a signal. So, what else can it be? I'm hoping that it isn't the fuel/ignition ECU.

Thanks.

When you said heavy rain I thought distributor cap
could be a bad wire to #3 also

After its dark, run the car and look for corona around your distributor
cap.

Thanks, I checked the continuity from the #3 injector wires to the ECU and they showed good continuity to the ECU pins. I read somewhere that there are relays located near the fan shroud that may affect the fuel injectors. So I'm trying that also. Any ideas are appreciated.

Thanks,

Time to go back in and erase all codes and see which ones will not go away.

The injector not getting a signal is most disturbing, like a wire may have shorted out for that injector. An ECU problem would have turned off all of the injectors, not just #3. You need to unplug the injector and check the wire for continuity.

Well continuity from injectors to ECU is okay. So, what else could it be but the ECU? I saw on a previous post that the main fuel relays locagted on top of the fan shroud the safety shutdown relay causes the injectors to not work also. would they affect only one injector?

Thanks,

No, it effects all of the injectors. Get a cheap NOID light to check each injector. It won't give you an exact reading, but it will at least tell you if there is power going to it. If it doesn't flash that typically means you have a ground issue.

Here is the link to the one at IPD. I'm not sure if the local Auto Zone/Pep Boys would have it in stock though.

Another trick you could do is pull out the entire fuel rail, place small glass jars under each injector and once you turn the key to position II you would know if that injector is working or not.
