Moaning noise at 60+mph S80 00

My S80 2.9 has developed an irritating moan when cruising down the expressway. I seem to recall there was discussion about a piston cooling valve noise about a year ago and since it didn't apply to me I promptly forgot about it. In scanning Alldata, I see there is a TSB #2220007 from Dec 99 discussing replacement of this valve. Does anyone have the details on this TSB and is a symptom this a low continous moaning noise at constant speed above 60?

The piston cooling valve was replaced in my 00 S70 last week, and it seemed to only make a high (but loud) pitched sound at idle.

    Peter-

The piston cooling valve noise is typically a high-pitched whine at idle that is masked by engine noise off-idle. A high-speed noise like you describe is usually a tire/wheel bearing/wind noise problem. Any changes (snow tires?) that coinsided with this noise?

Dave, Thanks for clarification on the piston cooling valve noise.

I have had no change in tires, nor road surface. Lately, It seems to start up after about 10-15 minutes at highway speed, I first noticed it about 3 months ago after driving for 4 hours or so and then only about 80mph, it would be cease below 70 now it kicks in at 60+ . No vibration is felt in steering wheel, noise doesn't increase or decrease in pitch with speed, just remains constant like someone blowing over the top of a soda bottle. It doesn't do it all the time, but when it does it is maddening

Ant relationship to crosswinds when you get this? I have noticed

something like that with a crosswind. When the road changed

directions it would be gone (or my speed changed). I think it came

from the rain channels on the front windshield (my S70 is the vehicle

I refer to). But, this is a very rare occurence and never lasts

        for long.

No crosswind noted. I did a little more sleuthing today and it may have been an inflation problem that set up a resonance. Will know more tomorrow when I head out on the expressway again. I did find this though. Front right tire 40lbs, right rear, 25.5 lbs, left rear 38lbs, left front 33lbs. Perhaps the diagonal higher pressure tires were setting up a harmonic with lower diagonal tires and I was hearing it through the frame.....I sounded like it was coming from engine compartment however.
