v70 check CHECK ENGINE LIGHT is on V70-XC70 1998

My 1998 v70 wagon check engine light will not turn off, Oil level is up and viewing thru oil fill shows it is pumping well. The engine is running very well and is cool.
IS there another action which would be monitored by that light.
I bought this car from an auction and it was delivered without oil in the engine but there is no apparent problem after refilling the oil.
Only 125,000 miles and car is beautiful.

Unless the check engin light is flashing, there is no reason to panic. Most often it is emmissions related or an electrical fault. Stop by an autoparts store and get the codes read. Write down the codes, probably more than one, and then fix the problem.

Understand that the "Check Engine" light has nothing to do with oil level, engine temp, etc. It is emissions related only. If you have a condition that will cause the engine control unit to post a fault code this is what will bring that light on. You have guages and idiot lights in the cluster for the rest of the important stuff like oil pressure, temp, etc. You need to have the codes pulled and interpreted to get a diagnosis on it.
