No start- humming throttle body. 850 1995

My 95 850 T5R has been sitting for about a year. Every few weeks I start it and let it run for a bit. The last time I tried starting it, I got nothing. Once in a while I would have to boost it to start so I hooked up the jumper cables and tried again. The lights came on and it seemed to slowly want to turn over. After a few tries, it seemed to wanna turn over slower and slower until nothing but a humming sound and a vibration from the throttle body. Is the starter gone or is it something else? Thanks for any input.

Hard to say from your description, Is the starter lugging slowly?
If so put a charger on the battery, clean up the terminals with
one of those handy battery wire brushes. Jumper cables are often
unable to supply enough current to spin the starter easily.
Try starting after a few hours on the charger.

You might look at the plugs and see if they look ratty.

Is this car in extended storage? Old gas especially ethanol laced crap is
even worse over time. And gas stabilizer doesn't work with Ethanol blend gas.

Thanks for the reply. The battery was a few months new when I parked the car in my driveway (due to a tranny problem that i havent had looked at yet). I had a trickle charger on the battery for 24+ hours and the car still wouldn't start but it would if I boosted it with another car or a mobile booster pack. I've had to boost the car to start it several times before. This last time, even with a jump from a van and a mobile booster pack, no start but all the power windows, lights etc in the car worked when hooked up to another power source.
The gas may be stale because it has been sitting for a long time with starts once in a while. I'm going to try the trickle charger again and some new gas and hopefully that helps. I have another T5R in my garage (which is another project in itself) but its battery is dead too. I might buy a battery and try it out on my purple brick in the driveway and if it doesn't help, i will just keep it for the black brick in the garage. Again, thanks for the reply.

The humming you hear is the idle air control motor, that is normal when the key is in posII or III.

I suggest that you trickle charge the battery for at least 24 hours and try again. Leave the radio and cabin blower in the off position.

Your starter works, just not enough battery juice. BTW, a good alternative is to buy a new battery maintainer from the autoparts store or some online place. About $25, and it will keep your battery in tip-top shape.

If you park the car outside, check for critter infestation.
