Wheel bearing questions 850 1995

My wagon needs a new passenger side wheel bearing. Should I buy OEM or is an aftermarket part okay? Any other installation recommendations?

Appreciate any help!

Jim

How long did the OEM bearing last?

Two hard parts: getting the hub off the axle and getting those dumb Etorx screws off. Rust is a major problem.

While there, clean off the grooves that are 'read' by the ABS sensor, they will eventually fill with rust.

My odometer is broken. A fair estimate is 185-190k. Someday, when I have some free time, I need to check the computer to find out what the exact mileage is...:)

Thanks for the help guys!

Do you think it's necessary to buy OEM?

OEM at Tasca is $111, FCP aftermarket is $80.

Klaus,

On those front wheel bearings, do you generally replace the whole hub assembly? Not that I need to (right now anyway) - just curious.

The bearings are not replaceable, the entire hub.

Generally, any quality brand like Timken or SKF is a safe bet.

+1 I found that AutoZone had the Timken hub/bearing assemblies when I needed them a couple of years ago. Not expensive either. IIRC, under $100 each. So far I've put about 25,000 mi on them. No problems, but none expected at that mileage.

Chris, good to see you're still around.

Hi,
as klaus says, you need a long extension to get the 36mm nut loose, don't turn against gear lock but have assistant to press the break pedal instead.
next hammer the axel 10mm inside (=loose) before lifting and removing the wheel.
