Lifespan of clock/temp light 850 96

My clock/temp light just burned out after working for 2 years 1 month and 19000 miles since they were last changed. Is this about average?

Just my 2 pence, 140K miles and still working. Some of the dash lights went out - had to bang the dash and they came back on (a good bang never hurt anyone) , but eventually had to replace some of them. Now the radio lights on preset 1 and 2 are out. Whatcha gonna do.

    Ken,

Don't know. But, others raise an interesting point.

I've read that the lower the instrument illumination, the better your eyes are able to perceive the area beyond the windshield illuminated by your headlights.

That theory could be totally bogus, but I always run the instrument lights at 1/2 intensity and haven't had a burned out bulb in over three years.

    Enjoy,

    Bryan

Give the sill under the dials a medium bang with your knuckles. I noticed one of my lights came *ON* (after being off since I got the car) on a road trip 3 weeks ago. Then it was off again a week later. Hmmm. So I gave it a good rap and bingo - it's back on. Not a quality repair, but hey, it worked for me (for now).

I have the dash lights set to about half illumination on both

of our Volvos and have had no dash lightbulbs burned out on

    either car.

Another data point for ya. Mine lasted almost exactly four years, but I run my dash at almost the highest illumination allowed.
