in middle of A/C evaporator replacement 850

so I finally got the air box out...interior looks like a car bomb went off in it!

only real problem is i broke the fitment that the heater hoses go into in the firewall - part of the plastic broke off as i yanked out the bottom hose (i've done this before!). my question is, if i disconnect the twin pipes that go from heater core to the firewall plastic piece, can i reinstall the air box without the pipe attached and still have clearance to install a new firewall connector and get the pipes back in later?

I need to order the plastic part and i would like to proceed with the job as far as i can while i wait for it.

thanks - appreciate the help

No problem to wait till later. As you know, the heater is rearward of the air distribution box and is reachable with the dash in place. Just easier to hook up with the dash out, less upside down fiddling.
