Can we revisit AC leaks? 850

Hi,
Long time no see. I'm in the can of r134 recharge club. I've been reading about stop leak products, but would like to know people's experience with them. I don't exactly have the bucks to rip the dash apart any time soon. Thanks for the help!!

Welcome to my club. Unfortunately, the season for cheap cans is over - last Fall when the stores were over stocked and you should have bought 10 of them.

Have you attacked the clutch yet? I found that putting in 3 shims made a world of difference. Yes, it still leaks, but slower now because the clutch engages when it is supposed to and the high pressure side is no longer maintaining a very high pressure when it get hot.

How do you get to the clutch to work on it?

Just drop the air guide (2 10mm screws on either sideof the engine. Then the clutch is right in front of the wheel. With the engine off it is easy to turn the clutch and push it in. Verify the gap is over .030, it usually is .040 when it refuses to engage once it is hot.

After the bread clips are glued in to position (3 of them), then buy and add 1 can of r134a to the running engine, AC switched on.

BTW, I didn't have bread clips, so I made my own spacers using bits of scrap metal sheet.

Alot of AC leaks on older cars develope in the flexable lines where the attachment fitting is crimped onto the end of the hose. If you're sure the leak is in the evap inside the dash then stopleak might help or slow it down. Personally I have never tried it. I just added coolant 'til I was doing it once a week. At that point I threw in the towel and ripped the dash out.
