rear shocks at 230,000 miles V70-XC70

I'm replacing the control arms, sway bar links, struts, and upper lower mounts. I have original Volvo control arms and sway bar links, Sachs Advantage struts and Sachs upper and lower mounts. The car has about 230,000 miles. The front control arms (bushings) are shot on both sides and the lower strut mounts are gone. The sway bar link on the passenger side it gone too. So I'm replacing everything except the ball joints, which seem to be fine.

Question: should I replace the rear shocks. I ordered Sachs Advantage with the other parts because I figured I should change them, but they seem to be fine. Sachs shocks last a long time!

The car will get a four-wheel alignment as soon as the work is done.

If the rears are 230K miles old, replace them. You got your money's worth!

I agree. I'll change the rears. I had the front end parts replaced today and the car drives like new. I changed the wheel bolts for the XC60 style spacers. No clunk.

Hello, I changed my rears first at 130,000 and was impressed by the improvement. Also, I've heard of using the XC90 front axle bolts to eliminate the "R toD click"; but what are "XC60 style spacers"? Did you need 20 of them? Kira

This is a replacement axle bolt.

Volvo lists this as 'spacer'; part number is 30714142. I paid about $20.

IPD sells it, and here's a link:

Some call the r-to-d clunk.....'ping'

Hello, To Hovonogila: The bolt you cited{IPD#114277} was so much longer than the "other" XC-90 bolt they list{IPD#120113}. What was it that made you try the long one over the shorter one? Kira

This is a fix for v70/s60 'ping'.

This part is the same length as the regular axle bolt for v70 and s60. And it keeps the shaft from moving in the hub. The previous fix was green loctite.

The xc90 uses two different length bolts. No idea why.

The spacer was a fix from a TSB for the xc60, which apparently has a different set-up from the xc90. It seems do the trick, on my v70.
